Here's what we were working with - a patchy, uneven backyard with bare dirt, weedy grass that refused to grow consistently, and a side yard that was basically just exposed dirt and debris. Not exactly the outdoor space you want to spend time in. The homeowner wanted something that actually worked - clean, usable, and low-maintenance. We had a clear plan.
We started by pulling out all the struggling natural grass and prepping the ground properly. That prep work is what most people don't see, but it's what makes the difference between artificial turf that looks great for years and turf that ends up with bumps, edges lifting, or drainage issues down the line. We take that part seriously.
For the main yard, we installed artificial turf across the full backyard area - lush, dense, and green wall to wall. Then we added a custom putting green with a built-in cup, shaped with smooth curves so it flows naturally into the surrounding turf. Two different turf products, two different textures - the lighter, tighter-pile putting surface sits right alongside the fuller landscape turf, and the contrast between them looks sharp. We also added a rock ring around the base of the existing tree to give it a clean, finished look.
The side yard got a completely different treatment. That bare dirt alley between the pool enclosure and the fence was cleaned out and filled with pea gravel, then we set concrete stepping stones straight down the middle - evenly spaced, level, and practical. It went from an eyesore to a clean, functional walkway. That's the kind of detail that pulls a whole yard together.
The end result is a backyard that actually gets used. No mowing, no irrigation, no dead patches. Just a clean, finished outdoor space that looks good year-round - and a putting green the homeowner can step out and use any time they want.
