A new pool is a big investment. But without the right landscaping around it, the space just doesn't feel finished. That's the gap we stepped in to close here - fresh palms, clean river rock, and a hardscape surround that ties the whole backyard together.
We lined the perimeter between the pool deck and the fence with river rock and newly planted palms. That combo does a few things at once. It keeps the ground tidy with minimal upkeep, it frames the space so your eye knows where to look, and it adds that tropical feel that makes a backyard actually feel like a destination. No grass to mow back there. No mulch washing out after every rain.
The hardscape side of this job was just as important. The travertine-style paver deck runs clean and level along the full length of the pool and wraps around the spa. The material choice matters here - it stays cool underfoot, drains well, and holds up in a wet environment far better than standard concrete. It's a practical choice that also happens to look sharp.
What we ended up with is a backyard that feels complete. The rock installation keeps the beds low-maintenance, the palms give it structure and privacy, and the pavers give you somewhere clean and polished to actually spend time. Everything works together instead of looking like a bunch of separate decisions.
That's really the goal with any pool surround - it should look like it was all planned from the start. Rock and mulch installation, plant selection, and hardscape all falling in line together. That's what makes the difference between a backyard with a pool and a backyard you actually want to be in.
